The State of Ohio has many close neighbors including Indiana to the west, Pennsylvania to the east, Kentucky to the southwest, West Virginia to the southeast, Michigan to the northwest and a large water-hazard called Lake Erie to the north. Cincinnati, state capital Columbus, Dayton, Akron, and Youngstown, all provide over three dozen courses apiece to challenge players in the relatively short playing season.

Popular public courses include Shaker Run Golf Club (near Cincinnati in Lebanon), Eaglesticks Golf Club (in Zanesville), Windmill Lakes Golf Club (NE of Akron in Ravenna), and Sleepy Hollow Golf Course (in Cleveland) to name a few. And, the Pepper Pike Club has been dubbed "one of the best walks in golf."

The great Golden Bear, Jack Nicklaus, grew up in Ohio and the Nicklaus designed Muirfield Village course in Dublin hosts the annual PGA Memorial Tournament, where Tiger Woods has had five victories as well as several disappointing finishes. Tom Weiskopf also hails from the Buckeye State, born in Massillon close to Canton. Since exiting the tournament scene Tom has turned his hand to designing courses in Colorado, Arizona, Scotland and native Ohio.
